Embassy or visa appointment in Yaoundé: how to plan the trip
Updated on 23 October 2026 · 6 min read
Most embassies in Cameroon are in Yaoundé, and many of them, along with some visa centres, are in the Bastos district. If you are coming from Douala, the West or another region for a visa interview, biometrics or a consular appointment, the safest plan is to arrive the day before, sleep close to the office and go there with time to spare. This guide covers the trip, not the visa decision: for requirements, only the embassy and its official visa centre are authoritative.
Embassy appointments in Yaoundé: who is where
At the time of writing, these are examples of where applications are handled. Always check the address on your appointment letter: offices and providers change.

We do not give visa advice
We cannot tell you which documents to bring or what your chances are. Use only the embassy's site and its official visa centre, and never pay an intermediary who promises a visa or an earlier appointment.
Why arrive the day before
- Appointments are often early in the morning, and a late arrival can mean losing the slot and waiting weeks for another.
- The road from Douala takes 3½ to 5 hours, and the Camrail express train about 4 h 45; neither leaves you a margin for a morning appointment on the same day. See Douala to Yaoundé.
- Yaoundé's traffic on weekday mornings makes cross-town trips slow.
- Avoid the road at night: leave early enough to arrive in daylight.
Your folder: prepare it at home
- 1Follow the official checklistDownload the list from the embassy or visa centre site and tick each item. Lists differ by country and by visa type.
- 2Originals and copiesBring the originals and the copies asked for, in the order requested, in a clear folder. Make copies before you travel: finding a printer near the centre on the morning itself is stressful.
- 3Your appointment letterPrint it, and keep the booking reference on your phone. Bring the ID you used to book.
- 4PaymentCheck how fees are paid (online, at the centre, by card or in cash) and have the exact amount ready if cash is accepted.
Bags and phones
Many embassies and visa centres limit what you can take inside (large bags, electronics). Read your appointment letter. With a driver waiting nearby, you can leave your things in the car.
Where to stay: Bastos and nearby
Staying in or near Bastos keeps you a few minutes from many embassies and visa centres, and the district is calm at night, which helps before an interview. A furnished apartment for one or two nights is often good value if a relative comes with you. Check-in is from 3 pm, so arriving the afternoon before works well. On the day: a driver who waits
A car with driver takes you to the right gate on time and waits while you are inside, however long it lasts. Afterwards it can take you back to the apartment, to the station or straight back to Douala. Send us the address and the time on your appointment letter when you book.
Coming from abroad or from the North
If you fly in, Yaoundé-Nsimalen airport (NSI) is about 20 to 25 km south of the centre; see arriving at Yaoundé-Nsimalen. From the northern regions, plan the journey so that you arrive at least the day before, and check your government's travel advice for the routes you use.
