Travelling to Cameroon from Belgium: visa, flights, time and money

Updated on 23 October 2026 · 7 min read

From Belgium, Cameroon is a single flight away: Brussels Airlines flies from Brussels to Douala and Yaoundé, and Air France connects through Paris. Belgian nationals need a visa, applied for online at evisacam.cm, and a yellow fever certificate; the euro is fixed to the FCFA and Belgian plugs fit Cameroonian sockets. Here is what is specific to leaving from Belgium, in Brussels, Wallonia or Flanders.

Visa from Belgium: the e-visa and the embassy in Brussels

Belgian nationals need a visa, applied for before departure on the official portal evisacam.cm. Cameroon is represented in Belgium by its embassy in Brussels, avenue Brugmann 131. There is no visa on arrival at Douala or Yaoundé. The general steps (form, documents, payment, approval) are in our guide to preparing your trip.

Read the approval email

It says whether you must go to the embassy for fingerprints and the sticker before flying, or whether this is done on arrival. In both cases, carry the printed approval with its QR code.

Flights from Belgium to Douala and Yaoundé

At the time of writing, Brussels Airlines flies from Brussels Airport (Zaventem) to Douala and Yaoundé, usually once a day. The same plane often serves both cities: Brussels to Douala in about 6½ to 7 hours, then on to Yaoundé, and back to Brussels overnight. Check which city your ticket ends in: the airline cannot sell you the short hop between Douala and Yaoundé alone. Other options include, for example:

Routes and schedules change, so check before booking. At the time of writing, the Brussels flight usually lands in Douala in the late afternoon and in Yaoundé in the evening: plan your pickup and the key handover accordingly.

Time difference with Belgium

PeriodTime in Cameroon
Winter time in Belgium (late October to late March)Same time as Brussels
Summer time in Belgium (late March to late October)One hour behind Brussels

Cameroon stays on GMT+1 all year and never changes its clocks.

Euros, FCFA and sending money home

  • The rate is fixed: 1 euro = 655.957 FCFA. 50 euros is about 32,800 FCFA.
  • Euros are the easiest currency to change in Cameroon. For larger amounts, withdraw FCFA from cash machines in town with a Visa card, and tell your bank before you leave.
  • Ask your bank whether your debit card works in Cameroon; a Visa card is the safest choice.
  • Sending money to family: apps such as Taptap Send, WorldRemit, Remitly or Western Union pay from Belgium straight into MTN MoMo or Orange Money wallets, often within minutes. With a fixed rate, the comparison is easy: any rate below 655.957 FCFA per euro is the service's margin, on top of any fee.

What to pack from Belgium

  • No adapter needed: Belgium and Cameroon both use type C and E sockets (220 V).
  • Light clothes, a rain jacket from June to October, a thin sweater for Yaoundé evenings and air-conditioned rooms.
  • Your yellow fever certificate with your passport, and advice from a travel clinic about malaria.
  • The Douane CMR app: fill in the Cameroon customs declaration before you fly. It produces a QR code scanned on arrival, and some airlines check it at boarding.
  • Printed copies of your visa approval, bookings and the address where you stay.

Travel advice and registration

The Belgian Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs strongly advises against travel to the Far North, the North-West and the South-West, and against non-essential travel to the border areas. Douala and Yaoundé are visited with ordinary precautions. Read its Cameroon page before you go and register your trip on Travellers Online.

French-speaking Belgians will find this site and our team in French as well as English. If you are coming for a ceremony or the December holidays, see our guides to funerals and family events and coming home for the holidays.
